St Albans Village

St Albans Village is a wonderful step back in time to the days reminiscent of convicts and pioneers.  At the centre of the village is the Settlers Arms Inn, a two story stone pub built in 1836, a meeting place for Valley residents and visitors alike and home to countless memories of times past and experiences for the present and future.

The local community has always banded together in good times and bad and have developed an affinity for looking after each other when the need arose, especially during times of fire or flood.  This led to the birth of a local volunteer rural bushfire brigade in the 70's with an old truck and four wheel drive.  The brigade has continued from strength to strength involving generations of local families giving of their time and energy to protect those in the Valley, the wider Hawkesbury region and even volunteering to assist their brothers and sisters interstate.

Over the last forty years or so, the village has played host to many events including national finals for 400 km endurance horse riding, 100 km mountain bike races, folk festivals, writing festivals and the like.  This year the village will be home to the inaugural St Albans Volunteer Rural Bushfire Brigade Pioneer Trail Run as a major fundraising event for the local brigade.

Those planning to compete in one of the three courses available are encouraged to consider bringing the family and staying the whole day, or even the whole weekend to enjoy the country air and immerse themselves in the history of the early pioneers.  There will be markets for the astute shopper, stalls providing coffee, drinks and food for a quick snack or picnic in St Albans Park.  The Settlers Arms Inn can cater for the more traditional country cold beverage and a hot meal in the beer garden out the back.
